At Krimson we have been using DevSeeds Open Atrium for a while now as alpha testers. Features, the easy way to add new contenttypes/views/settings to a website are key to the success of Open Atrium. But they are not limited to Open Atrium.
We are currently deploying features as a major part of a framework that requires the fast roll-out of new websites every few weeks. The major part of these websites are simular, but every version needs some different -ahum- features enabled.
Before we continue please read the blogpost from Lullabot first about the photo gallery itself.

Let's show the first feature
A photo gallery with views, cck and much more advanced views configuration (views attach) in 1 click. Hardly to believe but it's true. Lullabot exported this gallery as a feature and I wanted to experiment with this but it took a little while before it worked. The idea of a feature is ofcourse that it works out of the box! So the photogallery feature that we give you here is a bit adjusted to work more easily out of the box but all credits go to lullabot.
Features is the next big thing in making people conscious about the powerful options and creations that views, cck and other generic modules can produce. It will become a garden full of configurations and hopefully featureservers will raise some fuzz and in the end will make a better drupal world for all of us!
Now, make your own photo gallery in seconds!
1) Download the module below, try to enable it (and if you can't, download the needed modules)
Note: Features are not visible in the modules list once features module is enabled. They are visible in the feature admin panel
2) Add a gallery node
3) Click add photo and add another photo
4) Ready!
You want another feature example?
Question:
Let's say you build flash games and every drupal site is 1 game (for promotion for example). Some promotional websites have photo galleries, some have games with or without highscores.
Solution :
Add the game feature and the game_highscore feature (see below) and add a game node. With some imagination you can write code that add's highscores to your site after you played the game so highscores become available in views.
imagine the possibilities!
More ready to use features like this? Write your own feature, it's easy.
Your feature doesn't have to be a supernew innovative groundbreaking feature. Share what you use, if only 1 person profits from one of your shared features it's already worth the trouble!
How and where to publish it is not clear now. Like I noticed before there is the option of a featureserver or we could put the features on d.o? Interested in this? Please actively follow and/or discuss the topic
